How to Bring a Mid-Century Modern Flair Into Your Home

There’s a reason why Mid-century Modern style is still well loved and admired today. Its mix of different materials and love for practicality make it so easy to bring into the home. Here’s a few quick tips to get you inspired…

Shapes & Furniture

Clean lines, tapered legs, angular shapes, and bold curves shout Mid-Century Modern style. It’s hard to forget the very distinctive mushroom and tulip shaped forms. Look for furniture that is comfortable, functional and free from embellishments. To get you started, invest in a timeless Danish sideboard, a curved glass coffee table or a contemporary, angular pendant light. Look for furniture that was designed or inspired by iconic furniture designers such as Charles and Ray Eames, and George Nelson.

Materials

Bring plenty of warm wood into the home (like teak and walnut), leather furnishings, and hand blown glass.

Colour

Focus on block colours that are strong, bright and earthy. Such as mustard, gold, blue, olive, sienna, orange, teal, red and chocolate.

Keep in tune with the minimalist style of modern design by sticking to two or three colours.

Pattern

Look for patterns that mimic the shape of mid century furniture.
